Plainfield Girl Scouts Collecting Flags to Help Rebuild Washington

The scouts are collecting flags to make sure each newly rebuilt home has an American flag outside.

A tornado tore through Washington, Illinois, last November, leaving more than 1,000 people homeless.

Now, a Plainfield scout troop is helping with efforts to rebuild the town.

Girl Scout Troop 902 is collecting American flags so that the stars and stripes can proudly wave over 546 newly rebuilt homes. The troop earned a Bronze Award for its efforts.

Kits are $9 each, and the scouts will deliver the flags to the rebuilt homes on Memorial Day, and they're reaching out to the community for help.

Donations can be dropped off at Plymouth Congregational Church, 24022 W. Lockport St., or mailed to P.O. Box 386 c/o Helping Hugs, Plainfield, Illinois 60544. The deadline for donations is Sunday, May 25.
