District 202 Director of Community Relations Tom Hernandez said Max Estes, 26, submitted a written resignation, and the board of education formally accepted the resignation at its Monday night meeting.

Estes, who was a first-year teacher and coach last school year, was arrested last week on child porn charges after the Cook County Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force discovered evidence he had shared child porn online, according to the Chicago Tribune. A search of Estes' Chicago home uncovered numerous videos and photos of children engaged in sex acts on his laptop, prosecutors said.

  • Last week, Hernandez said the district had not learned anything that would indicate District 202 students were involved in any way in Estes' alleged crimes.

As a condition of his bond, Estes is not allowed to have contact with anyone under age 18, or to use the Internet or a cell phone.

Estes passed all required background checks before starting work in District 202, Hernandez said last week.
