Plainfield Releases Free Concert, Movie Schedule for 2014

Free concerts begin at 7 p.m. this year, while movies are at 8:30 p.m.

Movies in Settlers' Park, presented by BMO Harris Bank, begin Friday, June 13 with "Monsters University" (Rated G, 104 min), sponsored by Baxter & Woodman, Inc. Consulting Engineers.  

The Plainfield Park District's Family Recess begins at 7:30 pm and the movie will begin at 8:30 pm.  

Other free movies scheduled for this summer:

  • June 27: "Despicable Me 2" (G, 98 minutes), sponsored by First Community Bank
  • July 11: "The Lego Movie" (PG, 101 minutes), sponsored by Waste Management
  • July 25: "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days" (PG, 94 minutes), sponsored by Crawford, Murphy & Tilly Inc.
Movies are shown in Settlers’ Park at the Richard A. Rock Amphitheater. Settlers’ Park is located in Downtown Plainfield, southeast of the intersection of Lockport Street and Van Dyke Road, and just south of the Village Hall. 

Be sure to head to Settlers’ Park early, the Plainfield Park District is organizing Family Recess, backyard games and activities, at 7:30 p.m. The Plainfield Library is also joining in the fun this year, they’ll be at the movies, books in tow. Plus, the Police and Fire Departments will be making surprise visits.

Movies will start at approximately 8:30 p.m.

Concerts begin June 19

This year's free Concerts in the Park, presented by Tim Stetenfeld & Edward Jones Investments, begin at a new time of 7 p.m. on Thursdays. 

The schedule is:
  • June 19: The Flat Cats - “The Flat Cats play a range of vintage and modern music rooted in the hottest swinging jazz and blues, contemporary classics, and timeless standards.”
  • July 17: Pirates Over 40 - The Pirates Over 40 play “Tropical Rock including Jimmy Buffet with an eclectic mix of classic rock and oldies.” Sponsored by Aerotek Design Labs
  • Aug. 7: Spoken Four - “Spoken Four delivers astounding performances that'll make your jaw drop. Their repertoire includes songs from the 50s to today's Top 40.”

Settlers' Park information

Parking is available in the Village Hall Parking Lot, on Village Center Drive, and on Van Dyke Road.

Terraced seating is available.

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets, as well as snacks. Concessions are also available at Settlers’ Park.  

If inclement weather is forecast, the movie will be cancelled. In case of a cancellation, please call the Settlers’ Park Event Hotline at (815) 609-6124 or visit www.plainfield-il.org, for updates after 4 p.m. on the day of the movie or concert.
