Former Finnegan's Owner Says He's Not Involved With New Gastropub

The restaurant's owner said it will offer local farm-to-fork foods, craft beers.

A former Plainfield restaurant owner denied rumors that he's helping open a new gastropub/craft beer venue in downtown Plainfield.

Dale Lewis previously operated O'Sullivan's Irish Pub out of 24205 W. Lockport St., the future site of Sovereign Tap.

But he said he is not behind the new venture.

"I am not opening a new restaurant in the Bin 48 space," Lewis said, referring to the most recent business to operate out of the downtown Plainfield location.

Rafael Gomez, a former Tap House Grill manager, said he and girlfriend Jessica Watson hope to open Sovereign Tap by mid-July.

On Sunday, Lewis launched a Facebook group for the gastropub, but said he is not officially involved in the business.

"I am not a partner in this restaurant," Lewis said this week. "This is Jessica and Rafael's company." He said he's helping the business owners with marketing and promotions.

In addition to O'Sullivan's, Lewis also ran downtown restaurant Finnegan's Irish Pub, which shut down in September 2011 after losing its liquor license. The site, 24102 W. Lockport St., is now home to Capri Sogno.
