Plainfield Scouts Present Flags to Tornado-Stricken Town for Memorial Day

Girl Scout Troop 902 traveled to Washington, Illinois, on Monday.

More than a month ago, a Plainfield Girl Scout troop began collecting flags to make sure Old Glory continues to wave in an Illinois town hit hard by a tornado.

Troop 902 collected American flag kits so that every rebuilt home in Washington, Illinois, could proudly fly the stars and stripes. The town was devastated by an tornado that tore through the town in November, leaving more than 1,000 people homeless.

On Monday, the Girl Scouts headed to Washington to present the flags during the town's Memorial Day commemoration. The girls earned a Bronze Award for their hard work.
