Updated at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 9:

Plainfield police on Wednesday released a sketch of a man wanted in connection with an attack on a female victim Tuesday on 143rd Street.

Police said the victim was walking eastbound on the north sidewalk along 143rd Street between Meadow Lane and Route 30 when the man attacked her at around 7:15 p.m.

Detective Sgt. Kevin McQuaid said police believe the alleged attacker may have had a knife. "There was an indication that the suspect had a knife or similar type of weapon," he said.

Officials have not released any additional details on the nature of the attack. "We can't release any further information right now as to what happened," McQuaid said.

According to police, the man fled the scene, heading in an unknown direction, prior to the arrival of officers.

The woman was transported to a local hospital, where she was treated and released, police said.

Police, assisted by the Plainfield Police Department's two K-9 units, searched the area for an hour and a half to two hours following the alleged incident, McQuaid said. Additional searches of the area were conducted on Wednesday, he said.

The suspect is described as a black male believed to be in his late 30s to early 40s. He is described as being between 6' to 6'03," weighing 180 to 220 pounds.

Police said the man was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, dark-color baggy jeans, white or tan construction-type boots, a black do-rag, and a red and black White Sox hat. The suspect is also described as having a mustache and a chipped front tooth.
