Bibbs' 6 TDs Power Plainfield North's Romp

Tigers notch first victory as star running back burns Grant for 338 yards.

On an unusually crisp early September evening, there was a sense in the air that something special was going to happen at Plainfield North.

The Tigers were coming off last week's heartbreaking road loss against West Chicago. Playing without star running back Kapri Bibbs, an all-state selection last year, the Tigers managed just six points in that opener.

On Friday night, Bibbs indeed was something special. The senior running back scored six touchdowns and led his team to a 49-24 victory over the visiting Grant Bulldogs.

Bibbs rushed for an astonishing 338 yards on 32 carries, the vast majority of those yards coming in the first half.

"We had a great game. ... The offensive line created some huge holes tonight," Bibbs said.

Tigers quarterback Kyle Palandech scored on a 32-yard keeper and passed for 25 yards as Plainfield North evened its record at 1-1.

"We played physical football," Tigers head coach Tim Kaine said. "We really improved from last week to this week and hope to improve from this week into next.

"We had better blocking this week. We also had some great senior leadership during practice to help us overcome the adversity we faced."

The Tigers started the scoring early and never looked back. In the first quarter, Bibbs ran for a 69-yard score. That was soon followed by his 40-yard run that set up his own 7-yard touchdown burst. In the second quarter, Bibbs scored three touchdowns, on runs of 4, 2 and 5 yards.

The highlight of the third quarter was Palandech's TD run and Bibbs' final touchdown, a 6-yard scamper.

Grant got a great effort from quarterback Leo Minnie, who rushed for 140-plus yards on 17 carries. He scored all four of the Bulldog touchdowns.
