Ridge Road, 111th Street Remain Closed

Attention Plainfield drivers: Ridge could open by the end of the month, while the timeline for repairs on the 111th street sinkhole remains unclear.

What was intended to be a four-week road closure on Ridge Road is turning into more of a two-month project.

Part of the realignment at Ridge and Route 126, earth work on the project began June 17, Kendall County Highway Department Director Fran Klaas told Patch last month.

  • Klaas said the road was scheduled to reopen in four weeks, but as of July 18, Ridge remained closed near Plainfield.

Klaas was out of the office Thursday, but a highway department employee told Patch that the road is now scheduled to open by the end of July. The staffer said she did not know the reason for the delay, although recent rainy weather may have contributed.

111th Street sinkhole repair to begin soon?

Meanwhile, work to repair a sinkhole on 111th Street near the Canadian National Railway tracks in Wheatland Township could start next week, an employee in the Wheatland highway department said.

Wheatland Township Highway Commissioner Mark Troyanowski said  the contractor is already making progress on the site.

"I actually have some great news," he said. This week, "Things have finally dried up, and the contractor built temporary roads into the wetland area and temporary bridges over the utility areas."

Repairs on the sinkhole, which opened up during the April flooding, were delayed because the contractor has to coordinate work with all utilities that run through the site, according to The Enterprise.

Troyanowski said the actual repairs should start Monday or Tuesday, once ComEd finishes up some work. The road could be reopen by the end of next week, he said.
