Police Investigating Leads in Alleged Plainfield Attack

Plainfield police continue search for suspect involved in Oct. 8 incident.

Plainfield police weren't releasing any new information on a reported Oct. 8 attack on a woman walking along 143rd Street, but investigators are looking into tips provided by residents, Detective Sgt. Kevin McQuaid told Patch.

  • "We've got an amount of leads, and we're following up on all those," McQuaid said. 

    According to police, a female victim was walking eastbound on the sidewalk along 143rd Street between Meadow Lane and Route 30 when a man attacked her at around 7:15 p.m. McQuaid said there are indications the suspect may have had a knife or similar weapon. Police declined to elaborate on the nature of the attack or provide any additional details.

    The suspect is described as a black male believed to be in his late 30s to early 40s. He is described as being between 6' to 6'03," weighing 180 to 220 pounds.

    Police said the man was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, dark-color baggy jeans, white or tan construction-type boots, a black do-rag, and a red and black White Sox hat. The suspect is also described as having a mustache and a chipped front tooth.

    McQuaid said police continue to ask the public to report any information they may have on the incident, or the alleged suspect.
